26-Mar: Circumnavigation of Craig Goch Reservoir

Opportunity to get up close and personal with the reservoir as it is very shallow at the moment due to maintenance works on the dam. We start with a walk along one side of the reservoir with elevenses by the bothy and time for a paddle should you so wish (also a piddle if you need one in the en-suite section of the bothy). We then gradually go up the other side of the reservoir along the first part of the scenic Monk's Trod before veering off over open ground back to the cars. The views in the afternoon are stunning in good weather, fingers crossed then!Parking in the lay by at the start point which is just a little bit north of the dam. We should all be able to fit in but if not, there is space to park nearer the dam.

Start Point:SN 89078 68631 Landranger map 200

Conditions:8 MilesIt is easy going under foot for most of the way on established paths. In the afternoon there are a few stretches where the ground is uneven and a touch boggy in places. Some inclines but nothing very steep. There is a rather a steep decline at the end though. Only around a 1000 ft of ascent.

Leader: Graham Taylor 07719001655

Conditions:Approximately 4 miles to be covered. A mix of open ground and lane walking. Nothing too muddy, but there will be a couple of up hill sections. There is a dodgy stile, but it has a temporary fix, so should be stable to get over. Nice views to enjoy.

Start Point:SN 98548 55384

Conditions:7 Miles. Some stiles and ubiquitous mud. One gate to climb, two long stretches of lane walking - one before lunch and the other at the end of the walk. Both are up hill. (Sorry!).

Leader:Geraldine King 01597 822512

12-Feb: Elan Valley delight

This is a circular walk from the Garreg ddu reservoir car park which offers the opportunity to get up close and personal with 2 expanses of water as well as viewing them from above. The views of the far distance during middle section our particularly spectacular - weather permitting of course. There are a few parking spaces on the road before crossing the dam and plenty of room in the car park over the other side - SN 90908 63899

Start Point:SN 91145 63993

Conditions:7 miles with 1200 feet of ascent. The first and last stretches of the walk are on the cycle path and the bit in the middle mainly on established paths. There are a few less defined, muddy paths but nothing to write home about. The first part of the walk depends on whether a currently closed section of path is open again but there is a suitable alternative if not. In any event the main steep bit is early on.
